The puppy story

Our newest member of the homestead... after explaining this story twice, I find writing here is best

Sat Mar 6: Last Sat I had the day off.. Jeff and I had planned on going to the Big Texan because he has never been. I ended up sleeping till 10:45 (amazing that sable even let me.. course she prolly did try and just gave up) So I get up to take her out first thing and some stray dogs run up to us... I say stray because no one was out walking with them or calling them away from us or coming to get them... however the older dog does have a collar........ So I pet them.. One is a chocolate lab puppy girl with blue eyes the other a male mutt that kinda has a head like Sables only thicker fur kinda curly (wearing dog collar). So I finally get him to let me pet him long enough to get the number into my phone to call. His name is Shiner, has his rabbies shots, address is in Tulsa OK and phone number is 806 area code. I call and it tells me that the person is unavailable call back later. So I feel bad because they are listening better than Sable, the puppy (I named coco for time being) is right on my heals the whole time and when I come back inside they both follow us in... So I put food down on the floor for them and they eat it right up, then coco comes and lays on the floor by the couch and crashes. I sit on the floor to pet Sable and Shiner comes to be petted too. Jeff comes in gets excited that Shiner pays attention to him (since Sable really does favor me and was more offended when I was petting other puppies vs when jeff was) Well Shiner of course hikes his leg on the chair (got a lil in but the second I saw I yelled and he coward like he knew better) and luckily got it all cleaned and smelly free. The whole time they listen well and respond and don't tear anything up... even the puppy wasn't chewing on anything. We gave them all bones and each dog was happy. Took em out again twice and both times they would scamper off but when we called, they came back in. So Jeff convinces me to go to Big Texan and leave the dogs alone in the house anyway (so I puppy proof best I can) and we are gone for 6 hr ish to go eat. Come back and NOTHING has been messed up, pee'd on, chewed, no blood no nothing!!! Naturally Jeff and I had a bet so of course I lost. Well we take then out one more time b4 bed and they run away as if heading home and don't look back once! Jeff is a bit upset and tried to get them back while I brought Sable back in as a reward for listening. He comes back in and says its like they were heading home and he is kinda glad that he didn't have to make the choice of keeping them, taking them to Haven or keeping them for his parents when we go home for your wedding!

Sun Mar 7: Every time we walk Sable we keep an eye out because still can't get a hold of owner but never see hide nor hair (I'm more upset that the puppy ran away because it was female, chocolate lab w/ blue eyes!!!!

Mon Mar 8: I'm kinda lookin in the morning but nothing and I've pretty much figured they just escaped on Sat and that was all. I come home from work and as I'm walking up the stairs I hear jingle but think its Sable on the balcony and open the door and Shiner shoots into the apt and is lookin at me and Jeff like, hey I'm back. So we have Shiner and figure that someone found the puppy and kept her and booted him out.

Tues Mar 9: I get outta the shower from walking the dogs (which shiner doesn't listen to me at all now and LOVES running off and will come back when he is ready... I had to chase him down to the front of the complex until he finally recognized me calling him... and btw... he is a WHINER.. higher pitched than Bailey) So outta the shower and I hear Jeff talking to someone and I notice that she is holding the puppy... Oddly enough they had found them hanging out around our apt on Sun and took them in but had issues keeping up with Shiner as well and they live in the apt right next to us in 298... and she said every time they took them out they would run up our steps. She had seen Shiner on the balcony so brought the puppy thinking they were ours. Well Shiner shot outta the apt to play with puppy and once Jeff and the girl figured out that neither one of us owned the dogs she just said she'd keep them even though Jeff said we could trade off or split them up. So about 430, Jeff calls me at work and asks if I believe in signs. I say move the story along and he said he got outta his truck at work and he'd been thinking of the dogs all day and just then he hears jingle jingle and Shiner runs right up to him and jumps up on him all sorts of excited! So tried going next door to see return Shiner but they aren't there so now we have Shiner as ours.

Thurs Mar 11: I have to put him on a leash when we go out so he doesn't run off and I don't have to chase... Well we walk for an hour and he never goes #2, I finally give up cause I've gotta get to work and it is staring to rain snow (idk what mother nature was thinking)

Fri Mar 13: He has finally relieved himself fully in the apt (idk why cause we walked for 20 min and he pee'd tons on everything including himself (yuck yuck yuck!!!)) So not only does it REALLY REALLY stink there is a yellow spot I can't seem to get out! I've tried all my tricks we used on Bailey and Sable and nothing :/ Jeff said that we might just have to give him away because he is way to active (and not fixed) for apt life.... AKA Jeff was hoping for making Shiner his since Sable really loves me but Shiner def requires more attention then Sable in keeping up with brushing, feeding, walking and peeing and since I do most of that with Sable its taking a toll on me when he doesn't listen and I'm the one doing it (execpt brushing because Jeff did that) When Jeff takes them out at night tho Shiner listens a hella lot better to him than me so I told Jeff he'll need to start really making this 50/50 on the dog part (feed/walk/bath/vacuum) cause I can't handle this daily. So I believe we are gonna keep him and give him to Jeff's dad cause he is a good dog, just not fixed and not equipped for Apt living...

As I wrote all of this, Sable is sleeping next to me on the couch and Shiner is pacing the balcony, whimpering, every now and again barking and coming in and outta the apt begging (whimpering) for my attention... this detail has only taken me 6 min :/

There is the puppy story...
